ChatGPT vs. Claude: How Different AI Platforms Decide Whether to Cite Your Business
Not all AI is the same.
Most people talk about it like it's one thing. Like asking ChatGPT and asking Claude are the same experience.
They're not.
And understanding the difference is the difference between a visibility strategy that works and one that doesn't.
What is real-time AI and how does it cite businesses?
Real-time AI platforms like ChatGPT with web search enabled, Perplexity, Google AI Overview crawl the live internet when you ask them a question.
They pull from Google's index, maps data, directory listings, and recent news.
If your Google Business Profile is complete and your directory listings are current, these platforms can cite you relatively quickly. Weeks after making improvements.
This is the fastest layer to fix.
What is knowledge-base AI and why is it harder to crack?
Claude without web search nd the base version of ChatGPT both work from training data. A snapshot of the internet taken at a point in time.
To get cited here, your business needs enough independent, credible citations in that training data to be recognized as a legitimate, trustworthy entity.
That means independent press coverage. Structured data. Consistent entity signals across multiple trusted sources. Not your press release, social media content or paid placements (Advertisements).
It takes longer. There are no shortcuts.
What does your AI citation baseline look like right now?
When I ran my first platform audit: ChatGPT with map integration found The Agency East, but called me a real estate company. There was no distinction between my company and the very famous The Agency Real Estate
Claude knowledge-base: nothing. That’s when I decided to build it in public. To give all women business owners the roadmap to becoming citeable in an AI search.
The goal is to show up on all platforms with the same names and multiple citeations. I'm building both. Publicly. Follow along.
